Are the hand bikes compliant with the StVO?
Scout Handbike
Yes. The Scout Handbike complies with the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) and is approved for use on public roads. It meets all applicable legal requirements and is suitable for use on public roads and paved paths.
Ranger Trike
No. The Ranger Trike does not comply with the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) and is not approved for use on public roads. It was specifically designed for use off paved roads, on private property, and off-road.
Why are there these differences?
The legal requirements for handbikes that comply with the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) limit, among other things, power output and technical design. These requirements are important for safe use in road traffic but can limit off-road capability. Riders who regularly use a handbike on forest trails, gravel, steep inclines, or unpaved surfaces will reach these technical limits more quickly with a road-approved system, depending on the terrain. The Ranger Trike was therefore specifically designed for off-road use and offers the necessary performance for such conditions—but it is not approved for use on public roads.
